Year 7 Blackland Farm Trip.

7.30pm

Lot's of group activities at Blackland farm today. All is good, everyone enjoyed the kayaking. Some light rain when we got up but lovely since then. Everyone's been so busy they will all sleep well tonight after the camp fire.

Camp is all setup and the students enjoyed their first day at the site and they all ate a healthy breakfast this morning. We are aware there have been some reports on social media referencing strangers in the woods watching the group. For your peace of mind staff checked the situation immediately and there was nothing to be alarmed about.  All students were in their tents by 10pm and staff kept check on them until much later. Mrs Gregory the trip lead has said that she gets similar reports every year from some who let their imaginations run wild. For many in will be first time camping in woods away from their parents/carers.

Activities for tomorrow

Boulogne Trip - Have arrived in Boulogne and now off to the market.

Bushcraft, Cologne, Wicked and Geography field trip have all left safely.

Bushcraft - All arrived at camp safely and off to activities

Experience week Information

Shoreham Academy Experience Week Monday 2nd July- Friday 6th July 2018

We are excited to embark upon Experience Week, from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th July 2018 (Monday 2nd July is PSHCE day). Students have chosen from a wide variety of enrichment experiences and are no doubt excited about the unique opportunities to learn more about themselves. They will be looking to achieve their all-important pledges which will assist their future applications in further education, university, apprenticeships and jobs.

Experience Week is an integral part of your son’s/daughter’s educational experience at school, it is NOT OPTIONAL. It is a special week offering huge opportunities to extend their curriculum experience and all students are expected to participate in experiences during the week. Failure to attend school during the week will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and truancy.

Please scroll to the bottom of this page to access copies of some Experience Week letters, if you would like a reminder of the details.

My child is going on a trip

Please be aware if your child is going on the major school trip or visit then you will have already been informed of the itineraries and requirements. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the academy or the trip lead directly.

BLACKLAND FARM STUDENTS SHOULD ASSEMBLE AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL AT 8.30 AM ON TUESDAY 3RD JULY.  THEY WILL RETURN AT APPROXIMATELY 2.30 PM ON FRIDAY 6TH JULY.

BUSHCRAFT STUDENTS SHOULD ASSEMBLE IN THE SPORTS HALL ON WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY, READY FOR AN 8.30 AM DEPARTURE.  THEY WILL RETURN AT APPROXIMATELY 4.30 PM ON FRIDAY 6TH JULY.

My child is having an experience based at the academy

All In-School programmes will run from 8.30am to 2.45pm with breaks and lunches at the usual times. All food will be served in the main diner for this week.

Health & safety

Can you please ensure that your son/daughter is prepared for their experience. If students are spending time outside they must all have their own sun cream (minimum factor 30) which should be applied liberally at the start of the day. All students should have a bottle of water too (not soft drinks). Can parents also ensure their child is suitably dressed for the experience? Students should also bring with them a hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirt.  Please note there is a TOTAL BAN on aerosols on all trips and residentials.

Clothing

Students can wear casual clothes (non-uniform), however extreme styles and jewellery will NOT be allowed. Further information about appropriate clothing for the various activities have been provided by the trip leaders. Please consider weather conditions and that your child has the necessary sun-screen, medical, food, drink and clothing requirements. Parents should check Experience Week Firefly page for each trip’s specific information and requirements, including individual experience leader’s contact details.

Student Behaviour

Students are expected to show exemplary behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour will result in students being withdrawn from activities and isolation if at the academy. In such cases a refund will not be possible, as bookings are paid in advance.

Additional Charity Walk Information

Shoreham Academy Experience will once again provide an opportunity for students achieve a huge range of pledges. The charity walk presents an ideal opportunity to achieve number 9 (Be actively involved in some form of community, volunteering or fund-raising experience). We will be raising funds for mendbradsheart appeal and for Shoreham academy experiences.  Students participating in the charity walk should meet in the sports hall at 8.30 am prompt.

Students can either collect from reception or their pastoral office or print off a sponsorship form attached to start raising funds to support their charity walk.

Students can bring in the funds they have raised the week after (Week beginning the 9th July) and give to reception or pay by parent-pay.

Students will need to ensure that they are appropriately equipped for the walk.  Parents are advised to check the weather conditions prior to the walk.  Students will need to have:

 1) Sufficient water (1 litre), a packed lunch, including snacks

2) Sun cream (hat, sunglasses)

3) Water-proof / wind-proof jacket

4) Rucksack (standard school bag if sufficient)

5) Clothing appropriate to the weather conditions (shoulders should be covered to avoid both sun exposure and rubbing from the rucksack

6) Students should also wear sturdy footwear (decent PE trainers with ankle support will be sufficient)

7) Students should carry any personal medication (including asthma inhalers) with them

8) Students can bring a small amount of money with them as they will be able to buy an ice cream.

We look forward to an enjoyable and safe experience week.  There will be updates regarding return times via the Shoreham Academy Twitter page @shorehamacademy which is accessible through the school website.
