Enrichment Opportunities: The SA Experience

Gaining good academic qualifications is only one aspect of Shoreham Academy’s Sixth Form.

We seek to develop the whole student and, as such, provide a whole host of opportunities for Sixth Form students to discover and develop new skills and talents outside the classroom. Our wide-ranging and exciting programme of enrichment activities gives all students the chance to widen their experience, broaden their aspirations and gain valuable evidence to demonstrate why they are one step ahead of the rest. In recent years, activities have included:

·         Duke of Edinburgh Gold

·         National Citizenship Scheme (NCS)

·         Debating Society

·         First Aid Course

·         Film club

·         University taster days & summer schools

·         Fitness Club

·         Safe Driving

·         Sixth Form Sports Team

·         Sixth Form Newspaper

·         Trips Abroad

·         Alcohol Awareness

·         Work Experience

·         Sports Leadership & officiating for sports day & other sporting events

Sixth Form students are also able to take on voluntary work in the local community. These work placements, which can be arranged through the Outset organisation, include:

·         Working on a radio station in a local hospital

·         Helping out in a local junior school

·         Organising a lunch club for local pensioners

If students would like to participate in other activities which are not currently offered at the academy, we are always happy to help them establish new clubs or groups. We also support a huge range of volunteering opportunities including work with the Lions Club.

Many sixth form students;

·         Participate in paired reading scheme in which they can help younger students improve their reading skills

·         Act as peer mentors for younger students to support numeracy

·         Volunteer and organise charitable events that support the wider community

·         Work with the school Eco-group to support our local environment
