SHOREHAM ACADEMY STUDENTS EXCEL AT BEST IN EVERYONE AWARDS

Shoreham Academy is celebrating after picking up a suite of awards at United Learning’s national Best in Everyone Awards.
The Best in Everyone Awards is an annual prize giving event, designed to mark the exceptional achievements of pupils and staff across United Learning.  Schools from across the Group submitted hundreds of nominations which were then considered by a panel of judges who chose the overall winners.  There are several categories of awards covering academic achievement, extracurricular successes as well as character and leadership.
Three Shoreham Academy students were chosen as winners from a very strong field of entries:
  • William Woodhams was awarded the Business Award; having always shown an entrepreneurial nature, William has started multiple businesses including car washing and drop-shipping and is firmly focused on kick-starting a successful career in the world of finance;
  • Zak Smith was awarded the Dance Award in the Year 10-13 category; with 14 years of dance training behind him, Zak has developed into a strong dancer across a range of genres including jazz, ballet and contemporary dance.  Training up to 30 hours a week, Zak is a member of the National Youth Dance Company and has performed at prestigious venues such as Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Opera House;
  • Jacob Russell was awarded the Maths Award in the Year 7-9 category; budding mathematician Jacob has excelled across the maths curriculum and is constantly challenging himself with more advanced work.  His enthusiasm for maths is impressive and he constantly amazes his teachers with his ability to make links and understand complex operations.
As well as picking up three student awards, there was a special staff award.  Rachel Johnson was named Education Support Colleague of the Year for the work she has done to promote and celebrate reading both within Shoreham Academy and across United Learning’s group of schools.  Drawing on her experience of running local book awards, Rachel created the United Learning Book Awards, ‘Utterly Lit’, volunteering her time to develop an engaging programme to support the National Year of Reading.  The awards were hugely successful with authors attending the final awards night and students across the Group encouraged to try different books and nurture a love of reading.
Congratulating the students, Shoreham Academy Principal Jim Coupe said:
“It’s wonderful to see our students recognised in this way.  The three students have achieved three very different awards reflecting the breadth of interests and skills of our students.  Each student shows real dedication and enthusiasm and has remained focused on achieving their goals.  They are excellent role models displaying exceptional qualities.  As a school community, we are incredibly proud of them and congratulate them on these very well-deserved awards.
“We are very fortunate to have Rachel as part of our team.  She is a true champion of reading and has worked hard to make reading appealing and exciting for students.  She has used creativity to open up the world of reading to students and it’s clear to see the benefit this has brought not only to our students but to those across United Learning.”
Zak Smith said:
“I am incredibly proud and feel privileged to have won this award.  The time I have spent developing my artistry and creativity at Shoreham Academy is something I will take with me in my future career.”
William Woodhams said:
“I am so thankful for all the support from Ms Hanley and Mrs Perry. I appreciate the recognition this award brings. It makes me feel proud of my achievements.”
Jacob Russell said:
“I am hugely honoured to win this award. I want to thank everyone at Shoreham Academy, especially the maths and ILS department for their support.”

United Learning extends its sincere thanks to Taylor Shaw and Lexington for their generous sponsorship and support of the event.
