Mental Health
We all have mental health. Your mental health affects how you feel, think and act. Everyone's mental health can change on a daily basis, and it can be affected both positively and negatively by a range of factors.
The rates of mental health problems increase as you get older – almost two in every ten students in the UK aged 11 to 16 experiences mental health issues at some point.
At Shoreham Academy our mission is to ensure that all young people are provided with the tools to lead a mentally healthy life. Staff are trained in how to promote this with students, as well as how to look after themselves in this regard.
We have a diverse range of support available to students and young people at Shoreham Academy. With currently over 12 wellbeing supports running, we offer large, and small group wellbeing sessions, as well as more targeted 1-2-1 support. We offer talking therapies, such as Mental Health Ambassadors, counselling, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and more artistic ones such as Creative Wellbeing. Our interventions are each targetted at specific mental health needs and are graduated depending on level of need. Follow this link to see the types of support on offer at the moment.
If you have a worry, no matter how big or small, you can turn to any member of staff within our school. All our staff are trained to support students with their wellbeing in the first instance and will signpost you to further support, as necessary. You just need to decide who you feel most comfortable talking to.
Our Pastoral teams are readily available and can offer you a quiet and confidential space to talk and provide a listening ear. They can also offer practical advice and discuss further support in school or signpost you to external support. If you would prefer to discuss something in private without going to the office, you can email your pastoral team requesting a check in.
Shoreham Academy has student Mental Health Ambassdors who have been trained by Thoughtful to provide their peers with emotional, health and wellbeing support. You can self-refer for support from our friendly Mental Health Ambassadors using the link here.
Our inclusion department supports students with specific learning needs – within this you can access support for your wellbeing, emotional and mental health too. The TAs and keyworkers can offer a listening ear and guide you to further support in school.
