Shoreham Academy Students Look to the Future After GCSE Success

This morning, students at Shoreham Academy have had much to be proud of as they receive their GCSE results, which represent yet another year of successful performances.

Among those stories of particularly impressive student achievements were:

·         Henry C, who celebrates seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s including English Literature, Computer Science and Geography;

·         Poppy G, who celebrates two Grade 8s and seven Grade 9s including History, Business Studies and PE;

·         Elliott B, who celebrates two Grade 8s, a Distinction in IT and six Grade 9s including Business Studes and Geography;

·         Daisy G, who celebrates two Grade 8s and six Grade 9s including Maths, Computer Science and History;

·         Alex L, who celebrates passing all of his GCSEs with great grades.

Poppy G said of her results:

“The hard work really does pay off, I’m so happy with what I’ve achieved.”

Henry C added:

“I’m blown away with these results, totally speechless. Starting the revision early really helped!”

The majority of students will be choosing to return to Shoreham Academy’s Sixth Form to build on their GCSE successes at A Level. Among those returning, Alex L said:

“I’m so pleased with these results. I am really looking forward to Sixth Form.”

The Sixth Form marked some standout destinations which reflected the rich talents and interests of its students – in addition to top Russell Group university pathways, this included a degree apprenticeship at Siemens, a spot at the internationally renowned Rambert School, and a football scholarship at an American college. 90% of Year 13s who opted for university gained the grades they needed to secure their first-choice offer.

Jim Coupe, Principal at Shoreham Academy, said:

“These Year 11s have been a wonderful group of students to teach and to work with and I know I speak for our wider staff team when I congratulate them warmly on their achievements today. GCSE qualifications provide an important stepping stone as our young people continue their studies and I am thrilled that they will each be taking their next steps – including many returning to our Sixth Form – with results that reflect their hard work.

“These outcomes likewise reflect the tireless efforts of staff, who have worked alongside and supported students to achieve their best throughout. I would like to thank them as well as parents and families for the wider support offered to our students, which we know is vital to their success.”

Victoria Penney, Senior Vice Principal at the school, added:

“It is always hugely gratifying to see students achieve GCSE results they are proud of and today is no different. There are so many stories of individual success that deserve recognition today, including those who have seen their exceptional work ethic, talent and character rewarded. We hope that these achievements will spur on our Year 11s as they take their next steps, as well as providing inspiration that cascades down throughout our school and younger year groups.”
