In February half term our sixth-formers enjoyed a fast-paced and fantastic trip to Washington and New York, making memories to last a lifetime.
Washington highlights included visits to the Lincoln and Martin Luther King memorials, the Smithsonian museum of African-American History and a guided tour of the Capitol. We got to experience all types of food at the Union Market, walked several thousand steps and ate so much including classic waffles and maple syrup - America-style!
There was so much to see and do in New York, including seeing the breathtaking Manhattan skyline for the first time, taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, visiting the 9/11 museum which made an unforgettable impression on all of us, a guided tour of the United Nations and going to the top of the Empire State Building and Times Square. We visited Central Park in the snow - very 'Elf'!! - and finished off with a few hours shopping on the iconic Fifth Avenue.
All in all it was a truly amazing visit and all the students and staff had a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Watch this space for more exciting trips in the future. At Shoreham we endeavour to plan enough in advance to help with affordability for these life-changing experience and another trip to New York and Washington is in the offing!
