Work Experience

Work Experience Introduction:

Recent guidance from the Department of Education has highlighted the benefit of work experience for college students as they are well placed to begin preparation for progression into employment or higher education.

In order for students to gain the most from work experience, the placement should ideally be meaningful and relevant to their future career aspirations and study programme.

Work Experience provides enrichment opportunities to:

  • Make informed choices about your future career.

  • Improve motivation for learning and raise aspirations.

  • Gain an understanding of the expectations of employees in the workplace.

  • Develop your understanding of the responsibilities of both employer and employees within the workplace, including health and safety.

  • Gain an understanding of the skills and qualities valued by employers, including effective communication, enthusiasm, problem-solving, time management, negotiation and team working.

  • Increase confidence, social skills, self-discipline and responsibility.

  • Encourage research into routes for specific career path(s).

  • Enhance your CV and personal statements for university, employment or apprenticeships.
