Climate Change Protest

Similar to the events in February and April there is a student ‘strike’ and protest planned locally for Friday 24 May in relation to the issue of climate change. Our response to this planned protest remains the same as last time. Whilst we are sympathetic to the cause of global heating and climate change and of our students wanting to be active politically, we cannot condone students missing vital learning time to attend a protest during school hours. There are also concerns around student safety when meeting in large groups often unsupervised in the centre of Brighton. Therefore, the school will not authorise any absence for students wanting to attend the protest this Friday 24 May. This policy is in line with other schools in the area and to be clear owing to our safeguarding procedures, no student will be allowed to leave site without having pre-arranged parental permission and being collected by parents.
