Schools within a school

All students belong to one of the academy’s three schools.  To reflect the academy’s English specialism, the schools have been named after three authors who lived in Sussex:

Wells – after H G Wells author of The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds

Doyle – after Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes detective stories

Kipling – after the author and poet Rudyard Kipling whose most famous works include The Jungle Book and If-

Each school comprises students from every Year group so that the older students can support the younger ones as they progress through the academy.  The colour of each student’s tie denotes which school they belong to (yellow for Doyle, royal blue for Wells and green for Kipling).  Within each school, students are organised into smaller tutor groups who they meet with each day. Each school has a Head Boy and a Head Girl selected from the Year 11 students.  Other students are also able to apply to become student leaders taking on a range of responsibilities.
