Sixth Form Leadership Team & Student Union

Responsibilities and Leadership

All Sixth Form students hold positions of responsibility and serve the community. They are seen to be leaders and role models for younger students and ambassadors in the wider

community. These roles foster confidence, pride and a number of important skills that will stand out in future applications. The range of responsibilities includes working with younger students as mentors, subject and form helpers, and duty supervisors. There are also leadership opportunities as Head Boy or Girl and their assistants in their roles; such as charity work, environment and university support and many more.

Leadership Opportunities

Head Boy and Head Girl: The positions of Head Boy and Head Girl are much coveted. Students must complete an application process which involves a presentation to the Head of Sixth Form followed by a rigorous interview. The Head Boy and Girl have wide reaching roles and responsibilities and become the ‘face’ of the Sixth Form during their tenure.  They are seen as figureheads by students lower down the school and build strong relationships with the lower school council as well as chairing the student Sixth Form Leadership meetings.

Key information for Elected Posts: Sixth Form Leadership Team (SFLT)

The Shoreham Academy Sixth Form Leadership Team (SFLT) is a group of upper sixth students chosen by the senior teachers in a set of interviews. They each have a separate responsibility but come together as a team to make decisions and organise activities for the Sixth Form and the rest of the school. This will also lead to a Student Leadership Accreditation.

Roles and Responsibilities

The SFLT is responsible  for the organisation of weekly meetings and supporting assemblies/briefings. They willl also be expected to attend Sixth Form open and option evenings and play an active and full role in supporting the sixth form and the rest of the school. Sixth Form students are expected to play an active part in the life of the academy and gain useful leadership skills. They can sit in on the Sixth Form Leadership Team meetings and raise awareness of charities or issues about which they are particularly passionate about.
