3rd CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF GCSE IMPROVEMENT

Students and staff at Shoreham Academy are celebrating the school’s best ever GCSE results today, improving for the third consecutive year.

60% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and maths, an increase of four percentage points on last year’s results. Of this, English grades were particularly strong, with 88% of students achieving a C or higher.

The academy has also seen record highs for the top grades – ten students have achieved ten or more A*s or As:

  • Thomas Perry: 13A*-A (5A*)

  • Tess Lincoln: 13A*-A (3A*)

  • Katie Gilbert: 12A*-A (9A*)

  • Jed Dossett: 12A*-A (8A*)

  • Alex Apps: 12A*-A (6A*)

  • Daniel Walford: 11A*-A (8A*)

  • Ellie Hollis: 11A*-A (5A*)

  • Lealu Elliott: 11A*-A (1A*)

  • Ellen Nauman-Edwards: 10A*-A (2A*)

  • Chloe Stimpson: 10A*-A (1A*)

Last week, the academy also celebrated its best ever A Level results and some notable individual successes, with students securing places at Harvard, Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Jim Coupe, Principal of Shoreham Academy, said:

“I am tremendously proud that once again the academy has risen to the challenge and demonstrated sustained improvement for a third consecutive year. This is all down to the dedication and support of our staff team, who have worked to ensure our students reach their potential, and of course to our students, who can be proud that all their efforts and perseverance have paid off.

“Congratulations to everyone celebrating today; we look forward to welcoming most of you back into our Sixth Form in September to begin the next stage in your journey.”

David Oakes, the Vice Principal leading on Key Stage 4, said:

“These results are testament to the hard work of all our students, who should be proud of all they have achieved. It is particularly pleasing that we have significantly reduced the achievement gap between those eligible for Pupil Premium and their more advantaged peers, and that our top performers have secured an excellent number of As and A*s.”
