Year 7 Catch Up

Year 7 Catch Up Information

In the year 2017/18 we have received £24,500 for year 7 Catch Up, this money is allocated to support students that arrive into secondary below the expected level in reading and maths. This money will be spent paying towards the following initiatives which we continue to provide plus new initiatives for 2017/2018:

STAR Reading tests

At the start of Year 7 all students sit a Star Reading test which identifies a student’s reading age. This allows us to identify which students will need extra support.

The tests also ensure that the whole year group’s literacy needs are identified and appropriate interventions and support is put in place periodically throughout the year to help teachers identify those who are making progress with their reading and those who require extra literacy support.

Widening Participation Project

Designed to help Year 7 students understand their skills and future options and ultimately make choices about which subjects to study.  This is supported by visits to Universities ensuring every year 7 student has visited a University.

Transition

We employ a Year 7 Transition Coordinator who is also part of the Senior Leadership Team and supported by a Head of School, working with students from year 6 to ease the transition from year 6 to 7.

We also employ a dedicated Primary Liaison officer who begins working with year 6 students in October to run support workshops throughout the year.
